Slovakia Badly Corrupted, Say Firms

HUNDREDS of private sphere managers confirmed that Slovakia is definitely among the most corrupted states in the region. World Bank’s Enterprise Survey published last year puts Slovakia beyond its V4 or B3 partners.

Many discussions about corruption in Slovakia tend to end up with an hopeless sigh ‘it is the same in the other countries anyway.’ Apparently, it is not. It is striking how many firms (out of 275 interviewed) disclosed the need to bribe in order to “get things done.”

Another striking moment is the amount of firms trusting the justice system in the country. Although, it is as well real that these are the companies with no experience with the courts.

It is important to say that representants of pharmaceutical companies did not take part in the research. However, with the sample ranging from 250 (Czech Rep.) to 455 (Poland) it is time to dismiss the argument “it is all the same everywhere” once for all.
