After Economy The Crisis Hits Social Democrats

GENERALLY the trend is pretty clear. After the crisis sparked off the wave of mass layoffs, left leaning parties all over the European Union are loosing its mandates.

Sure, every country has its pecularities, political history and every political campaign is different. But still no obstacle to have a short look into how did the main Social Democrats get round parliamentary elections that took place in the last 12 months in the EU countries.

October 2009, Portugal: Partido Socialista DOWN from 45,1% to 36,6%

October 2009, Germany: Sozialdemokratische Partei Deutschlands DOWN from 34,2 % to 23 %

July 2009, Bulgary: Balgarska Socialističeska Partija DOWN from 31 % to 17,7 %

November 2008, Romania: Partidul Social-Democrat DOWN from 36,8 % to 33,1 %

October 2008, Lithuania: Lietuvos Socialdemokratu Partija DOWN from 20,7 % to 11,8 %.

Sure, hundred of questions still unanswered. How about the right-wing parties? And the minor left parties? Were they in office the last 4 years? Etc… However, I am convinced that in the situation when people who are loosing jobs nobody believes in the empty lefty blabber anymore. Either one stays at home or cast his vote to a rightist party.

A hope for June 2010, Slovakia and brothers Czechs?
