Door Guy vs. Colleague

IS THERE anything that still surprises you when abroad? I got this question couple of days ago and found it interesting. My “asking” friend knows I travel quite a lot and mostly to more developed countries than Slovakia. This is just to say that a car yielding a pedestrian should not be so surprising as it usually is for Slovaks for the first time.
Neither should be a capital city with metro surprising (yes, you guessed it right, there is no such modern element in Bratislava). So I took a while to find some differences between Brussels and London or DC.
The major one might be demonstrated by the way I was introduced in to the staff people in e.g. in Washington and here. “This is John, and he is a post guy,“ they would say in USA. “Meet our colleague John, he is responsible for post here,“ I was told here. Can you see it?
The position hierarchy within a company matters much less here in Brussels. We are all colleagues on the first place. Just that everybody is responsible for his/her own field, might that be financial management or cleaning the premises. And I must admit I like the approach. With less social distance work environment feel a bit more human.
